Sport Fishing Catch Report - 27th - 29th June, 2011

Stanley Mcjunkin, Ben Wigigton and Will Latham from North Carolina wore themselves out catching fish here this week, these boys just wanted action and big fish.

This Tarpon caused mayhem, we had plenty of Fox Trek rods and reels at the ready!

We used live pilchards and small ballyhoo for bait to catch Mangrove Snapper, Seatrout, Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish and more. The Snapper bite was red hot all 3 days. The Mangrove snapper were the biggest so far this year. The last couple weeks they have moved into the deep grassy areas near Sandy Key. We used Bonefish Trek rods and Fox Rage Ultralight rods and Diablo 350 spinning reels for all this fun action and table fare.

Mangrove Snapper this size provides great action using the Fox Rage Ultralight 185 rods and Diablo 350 reels

We went out to Cape Sable and found a new spot near an area I usually drift fish for Tarpon. We achored because it was on the choppy side and came up with a Sawfish and a 200lb Goliath Grouper. Also caught were 3 Bull Sharks and 4 Lemon sharks and numerous Blacktip and Spinner Shark. We saw Tarpon but no bites this day.

Will Latham used the Fox Trek Boat rod with the new EOS reel to catch this 200lb Goliath Grouper

The second day started out with lightening and thunder and our first real rain in 3 months. We got out at 11am and fished until 6:30pm. Caught were plenty more snappers and then I found a school of mullet which I castnetted. We used those to release a couple of nice Tarpon and a few more Sharks and 2 Goliath Grouper.

On day 3 it was stil drizzly but the Tarpon bite was on at Cape Sable. Stanley released 3, Ben and Will each released a Tarpon as well.
Then we went to the beach and released 5 Snook and Ben got revenge on 2 Snook eating Spinner Sharks. To finish we went back to the Snapper hole and limited out a nice catch for the dinner table.

Lots of action to be had. Summer fishing is really good at the moment. Offshore the captains are catching plenty of Dolphin fish with a few up to 40lbs. Swordfish are being caught almost on a daily basis by the guys fishing 1600' of water.
