Fox Sport Fishing Catch Report - 17 July 2011

Just got back home from Las Vegas, We attended the ICAST Tackle show and the Fox Sport fishing line of tackle was a big hit!

The new Stratos Twin Speed spinning reel, the first of its kind, blew everybody away. We demonstrated it using a 27lb bag of sand and when folks tried reeling it in with a 6 to 1 gear ratio then switched to 2 to 1 they could crank it right in, everyone is super impressed. Of course the Fox Travel rod series was very popular as well.

Well, we are back in the Keys and yesterday I had the pleasure of guiding Cliff and Cathy Fox along with Andy Little and first timer Adam Taylor.

After loading the live bait well on Foxy Lady with fiesty Pinfish we headed to Cape Sable to try for Tarpon. Adam Taylor wasn't in the water 2 minutes and hooked his first ever Tarpon. A nice fish of 50 lbs caught using the Permit Trek rod and Diablo 550 spinning reel spooled with Horizon Braid line. Congrads to Adam!

Adam Taylor released his first ever Tarpon within 5 minutes of lines in!

Next it was a double header of Tarpon with Cathy and Andy sharing the fun. Cathy's Tarpon was another 50lber, Andy's Tarpon was a big one of 115lbs and also caught using the Permit Trek rod and Diablo 550 reel. Cliff got in on the action but his Tarpon jumped off.

Next it was Cathy Fox and Andy Little with a double header of Tarpon!

After obtaining a DNA sample Andys' 115lb Tarpon goes back in.

Later in the middle of the day the tarpon action slowed so we gave Snook fishing a try using what was left of our pinfish. Cliff and Andy scored a couple of nice Snook each.

Andy Little got in on the Snook action releasing 2

Before leaving the snook spot Adam caught a seven foot Bull Shark using the EOS 30 trolling reel and Trek boat rod. Nice work Adam!

Adam Taylor released this Bull Shark!

We finished the action packed day by catching some more bait, this time small ballyhoo, then anchored on a grass bed and chummed. Caught was a limit of fat Mangrove Snapper and many released. Also caught were Seatrout, Ladyfish, Spanish Mackerel and small Shark. I think there were just a few catfish as well. Cliff managed a Grouper on the light tackle. Cathy Fox did the unbelievable, She reeled in 2 Snapper on 1 hook, How she did that I don't know.

Cliff used the light tackle to catch this Gag Grouper.

Cathy caught 2 Snappers on the same hook!

All the fish were caught using the Bonefish Trek and Rage Ultra light rods fitted with Diablo 350 reels.

Cliff enjoyed using the Rage Ultralight 185 Diablo 350 combo to catch this toothy Spanish Mackerel.

Adam caught the largest Snapper using the Rage Ultralight 185 rod and Diablo 350 spinning reel.

A great day was had. As we cleaned the fish and boat, a big Thunder storm arrived and we got a nice washdown.
