Fox Sport Fishing Catch Report - 26 & 27th July 2011

Stanley Mcjunkin and nephew Mike Porterfield are fishing with me this week. The first day was spent offshore chasing MahiMahi. Kind of slow but we managed 9 gaffing size Dolphin. We did find schools of small Dolphin that we did not mess with. The big weedlines and current edge from the day before had moved on.

Stanley and Mike used Permit Trek rods paired with
Diablo 550 reels to catch some gaffer Dolphin
During the night we had the makings of a tropical depression swing through and move into the gulf of Mexico. It is now a named storm called Don and heading for Texas.

So... Day 2 dawned windy. 20 to 25 mph. But we still had a great day. Bait was easy. Pilchards and small Ballyhoo, We used these to provide 4 hours of non-stop action with Mangrove Snapper, Ladyfish, Seatrout and Spanish Mackerel. The boys enjoyed using the light tackle, Bonefish Trek/Diablo 350 and the Fox Rage Ultralight/Diablo 350, Loads of fun.

Later we moved to a spot somewhat protected from the wind. There Mike landed his first ever Tarpon. He barely had his bait in the water and this crazy Tarpon almost jumped in the boat, Mike was estatic, He had always wanted to catch a Tarpon and now it was a done deal.

and this is one very happy man
Stanley scored a Tarpon as well and while he was doing battle Mike hooked up again and brought a nice sized Goliath Grouper boatside, That was another first for Mike and he caught that on the same rod and reel, Nice going Mike!

Stanley next scored a Gag Grouper and we finished with a Blacktip Shark and a couple Nurse Sharks.

Not bad for such a windy day!
